Value of field-tested experience

LOUIS HANNECART, Emeraude Steam Pilot Project Manager

32-year-old Louis Hannecart oversaw the steam injection petroleum recovery project - developed by and for Perenco at the Emeraude site in the Republic of Congo.

Working in operations - that's what brought Louis Hannecart to apply to Perenco in 2004. The young École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées graduate had just spent two years at Bouygues Offshore/SAIPEM, working as a Methods Engineer on deep offshore projects. These were projects he did indeed follow - from afar. "I wanted to go to the heart of the matter, to take part in the production," he recalls.

His first job at Perenco gave him that opportunity. He began as Production Engineer, then Site Supervisor on Emeraude, one of the three offshore oil fields the Group produces in the Republic of Congo. "That assignment was very important," he explains. "It enabled me to experience working rotations and see all aspects of the business." Later he worked at the Paris headquarters to oversee the construction of a pilot steam injection project in Emeraude. He still bears that experience in mind. "We are developing a modern, well-equipped platform. It's important to know the people for whom we're building it, those who will operate it, in order to deliver a tool best suited to their methods."

Louis Hannecart was involved at all stages of this project, from project development to the choice of partners (engineering firms and equipment suppliers), the recruiting of a portion of his team and the choice of shipyard in Morocco. "It was a surprising choice, but management placed their full trust in me," he observed.

After the successful completion of the platform and its installation in Congo, Louis Hannecart was appointed General Manager of Perenco Tunisia, a position he is still occupying today.
