"We are central to all exploration, development and production activities."
HENRI PIAT, Head of Drilling
This is how Henri Piat describes the role of the Drilling division at Perenco. Based in Paris, the Group's drilling team carries out exploration drilling, production drilling and workovers on existing wells. Some 30 specialists travel from site to site over the course of their assignments.
In addition to rented rigs, the Group owns four rigs dedicated to onshore activities and has recently acquired a platform for working over offshore wells. "We keep up to date with the latest technology. For example, in Egypt, the team has used a multilayer sand control system. A single well crosses several reservoirs, which are drained in controlled fashion, one after the other. It's a real technical challenge."
Although Henri Piat has been part of the Perenco adventure since the foundation of the company (he belonged to the team brought together by Hubert Perrodo when the Group ran a contracting business) his enthusiasm for his profession has never diminished. "Knowledge of this field is acquired over time, and Perenco constantly offers new experiences," Henri emphasises. "We have to drill in all kinds of environments - in the Amazon Forest, in deepwater off the coast of Brazil, in the clear waters of Belize, in the Kurdish mountains, in the Tunisian desert, and in the mangroves of the Gulf of Guinea. Each well is a new well."
