The MOAB : Innovation takes teamwork
During February 2009, Perenco successfully installed a MOAB (Mobile Offshore Application Barge) offshore Congo.
On board the platform are a steam generation unit, a drilling rig and production facilities. It is the first of its kind in the Gulf of Guinea. The MOAB was built in Morocco and transported to Congo by boat with all the equipment pre-installed. There it was launched and towed to its final position in the Emeraude field where it was anchored on the sea-bed.
The Emeraude field contains a heavy, viscous oil. Since Perenco took over the field in 2001 production has more than doubled using only standard technology. Now, with the capacity to inject steam into the reservoir, we expect to improve the recovery factor significantly.
